BUSWAY
Busway is a bus rapid transport system, which began officially
operated by the government of DKI Jakarta on January 15, 2004. Busway is a mass
transit alternative solution offered by the government in major cities so that
citizens can enjoy public transport is fast, convenient, and safe. Besides in
Jakarta, the busway has also been applied in other big cities in Indonesia,
Yogyakarta (Trans Jogja), Bandung (Trans Metro Bandung), Bogor (Trans Pakuan),
Pekanbaru (Trans Metro Pekanbaru), and Palembang (Trans Musi) . During the 6
years, the busway in Jakarta has served 8 corridor with a fleet of 426 buses
that pass through the unit total path length of 123.35 km (the longest track in
the world in the BRT system) and has 141 stops. Although it could lead to the
pros and cons, so excellent in fact busway start seen from the number of
passengers who increasingly larger. Busway is not merely a means of mass
transportation alone, but also serves as a city bus because it passes through
the various tourism facilities of the central government. So no wonder, based
on data from the official website of TransJakarta (www.transjakarta.co.id),
busway in Jakarta until the month of April 2010 has been transporting
passengers an average of 250,000 people for every day.
The operation of the busway is also a local government
strategy to reduce congestion on major roads in major cities, especially the
capital city. Therefore, the busway is equipped with special facilities and
infrastructure, including shelter (shelter specifically for the busway),
electronic ticketing systems, and also deliberately given a special pathway
that is (actually) should not be passed by other vehicles. There are 4 main
reasons why people prefer to use the Jakarta busway is compared to other public
transport, namely low rates, can connect different places in Jakarta with a
faster, more convenient compared to other public transportation, as well as
better security. Air-conditioned bus fare (Air Conditioning) of Rp3.500, - per
trip is considered citizens quite affordable, especially for long-haul
destinations as passengers and transit lanes in any busway station does not
need to pay anymore, as long as it does not come out of the shelter. Unfortunately,
during the 6 years of development and management of the busway is not in
accordance with the expectations of the users. Most frequent complaints of the
faithful busway passengers today are long and the length of queues at bus stops
and shelters, especially at rush hour (especially in and out of office hours). Passengers
also must be willing to jostle on the bus.
The main cause is the busway fleet and transport capacity can
not keep pace with the number of passengers resulting in the accumulation of
passengers. This condition is exacerbated by the encroachment of other road
users that enter the busway lane busway thereby further inhibiting the rate to
be the right time to stop. As a result, long queues and scramble action entry
with push each other so the bus stopped at the stop was inevitable. Less than
optimal care is also perceived to be quite disturbing for the busway
passengers. Unscrupulous drivers who sometimes likes reckless or that do not
turn on the notification destination stop so that the guards were shouting
pintulah stop destination to make passengers feel like riding metromini busway.
Moreover, the absence of an image map on the bus to make passengers who are not
familiar with these routes busway, especially foreign tourists, into confusion.
The map is displayed on the busway shelters are not uncommon letters and
pictures are too small or located too high so that passengers still have to ask
the security.
